    Hello, my name is Neva Nelson and I have been a china painter since 1994. I first discovered china painting in a ceramics magazine that featured the artist Bill Thompson. After seeing Bill's china paintings, I was hooked and knew this was the art form I wanted to learn. So I began my search for a teacher.5

Anne Lukensmeyer of Cedar Falls, Iowa has the honor of being China Painting Today's first featured artist. 

Anne's introduction to the porcelain art field began in 1976 during the time she lived in Kansas City, Missouri, USA. A kindly neighbor shared with Anne the fundamentals of porcelain painting and then outfitted Anne with some basic china painting supplies from her teacher, Inez McPherson. Anne then took lessons from that neighbor, Augie McDaniel, once a week for ten weeks.5

As part of an active group of West Australian artists she regularly takes part in exhibitions, conducts demonstrations and workshops. Local flora and fauna provide inspiration for her work. She frequently travels into remote areas of the Australian Outback with her husband Mike in search of new subjects and experiences to inspire her art.

Pirkenhammer Vase

 

This color plate featuring the famous Pirkenhammer Vase was a supplemental mailing in June 1888 to the subscribers of The China Decorator magazine.

The magazine was printed in black and white. However, twice a year, the publisher mailed out a color plate. Since they were mailed separate from the related magazine issue, most were lost over the last 125+ years and they are a very rare find for collectors of the 19th century The China Decorator magazine.
